The Junior Paddle League is designed to introduce kids to the excitement and physical benefits of stand up paddle racing.
This is the first year we'll be offering this service and we are super excited about giving younger paddlers the opportunity to get involved in this rapidly growing sport.
The League runs monthly in June, July and August and consists of two weekday training sessions on Monday and Thursday nights from 5:00 to 7:00PM meeting at Perkins Pier. Kids can sign up for one or multiple months. No prior experience or equipment is necessary. Kids will be instructed at their own level of knowledge and experience. We supply boards, paddles, leashes, PFDs and all the necessary gear to get out on the water.
Our teaching philosophy is centered around making sure everyone is having fun on the water, learning new skills, and feeling good about their progress. The goal of the program is to foster excitement about the sport of stand up paddling while enjoying the outdoors and connecting with the lake.
Over the course of the program, kids will learn the mechanics of the proper paddle stroke concentrating on power generation, endurance, and efficiency through the water. Our weekday training sessions will be geared toward on-water instruction, paddling drills, and interval training. Each week, paddlers will apply their new skills to a "fun" race where they'll try to beat their finish times from the week prior with an emphasis on building camaraderie and self confidence.
