2017 Big Bump Invitational

The Big Bump invitational is an invite-only 15 mile downwind paddle board race on Lake Champlain.

The actual date of the event will be decided by the race directors at WND&WVS. The criteria is any day within the waiting period with sustained winds of 20mph and higher. We have two courses designed - north and south - which will be determined on the day of the race based on the wind direction. The north course will run from the north side of Thompsons Point in Charlotte to the Burlington Surf Club beach. The south course will run from Port Kent, New York which we will access via the Burlington ferry crossing back to the Surf Club. Anyone interested in applying for an invitation should contact us using the button below.

The waiting period for the event opens in late spring and runs through the end of October. We will update racers on probable dates and weather conditions well in advance. As soon as we see a bump of wind in the forecast, we'll alert all registered paddlers to be on stand by for a call. The decision to run the race will be decided within 48 hours of the start time.

Race classes are open to stand up paddle boards (SUP), prone paddle boards, outrigger canoes, and kayaks. We'll have prizes for the top finishers in each class. You may also register as a team but in doing so must supply your own support boat for transitions. Every paddler must be able to prove their eligibility for this race by submitting results from races of a similar distance. Solo paddlers have the option of hiring an escort boat for support but must make those arrangements directly.

The cost of the race is free. This is designed to be a fun event geared toward getting you all on the water participating in a semi-organized long distance down wind race.
